The human bone grows during the night so the bones must grow in the corrected position. So nighttime bracing is scientifically compulsory in the treatment of clubfoot. Nevertheless, naptime bracing is also made compulsory for practical reasons. Any child will cry when a brace is applied and they miss sleep time during the night. When they miss sleep at night, children sleep longer time during the day. When this process of less sleep during the night and long sleep during the day happens for several days and weeks, the children end up sleeping very few hours or no sleep during the night and long hours of sleep during the day. This could cause relapse because the corrected foot is left free for more hours during the night. To prevent this crisis, parents are taught to help their children wear the brace during night and nap time. In this process, the children associate sleep with bracing and they overcome the initial irritation to wearing a foot abduction brace.
