The best treatment available at present globally is the non-surgical method called the Ponseti method. This Ponseti method is a conservative method where the foot is corrected with weekly plaster casting. The final cast is applied after a minor procedure called tenotomy. The weekly plaster casting is applied for four to six weeks depending on the severity of the clubfoot and the age of the child. After tenotomy which is the cutting of a tendon, the cast remains for three weeks. Once the foot is completely corrected, foot abduction brace (special shoe with abduction bar) is provided to prevent relapse. The child has to wear this brace 23 hours a day first for three months and subsequently night and nap time bracing for four-five years.
