Transforming Tomorrow: How Mandla’s Frontline Workers are Eradicating Clubfoot Disability

In the heart of Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, a vital conversation took place today that will change the trajectory of lives for years to come. At Anganwadi Kendra, Katra, our District Program Coordinator (DPC), Ms. Gyaneshwari, led a community meeting focused on a single, powerful mission: ensuring that every child born with clubfoot has the chance to walk, run, and thrive.

By sensitizing Anganwadi workers and community members, CURE India is strengthening the "frontline" of healthcare. These community hubs are not just centers for nutrition and basic care; they are the primary screening grounds where the future of a child’s mobility is often decided.

The Power of Early Detection: Why the Grassroots Matter

Clubfoot is one of the most common congenital physical disabilities in India, yet it is completely treatable when addressed early. The challenge, however, is often not a lack of medical solutions, but a lack of awareness. Many families in rural regions may not realize that the condition can be corrected without invasive, expensive surgery.

During the session in Katra, Ms. Gyaneshwari highlighted the critical importance of early identification and timely referral. When an Anganwadi worker identifies clubfoot in a newborn, they become the bridge to a life-changing cure. By referring children to the nearest clubfoot clinic at the right time, we can implement the Ponseti method—the global gold standard of treatment. This non-surgical approach uses a series of gentle manipulations and plaster casts to correct the foot's position, followed by the use of a Foot Abduction Brace (FAB) to maintain that correction.

CURE India: A National Leader with Global Social Impact

This initiative in Mandla is a vital part of a much larger story. CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India. This credibility is built on a foundation of clinical excellence and a relentless commitment to transparency of fund usage.

We currently operate the largest clubfoot program in the world, with our national presence extending to every corner of the country. To date, CURE India has documented the most number of clubfoot children treated in medical history. Our work goes beyond the clinic; it is about restoring dignity to children and hope to their families.

The Vision: RunFree2030

Our work is guided by an ambitious roadmap for the future. Currently, CURE India is proud to be treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this impact is significant, we are committed to scaling our reach even further.

Through our RunFree2030 initiative, we aim to scale our treatment coverage to 70% of all children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years. Achieving this goal requires a dual approach: maintaining high-quality Free Treatment in our clinics and aggressively expanding awareness through grassroots outreach, just like the meeting held today in Katra.

How You Can Help Bridge the Gap

The success of our mission relies on the collective support of donors, medical professionals, and the general public. We believe that no child should be denied the chance to walk due to a lack of resources or information.

  • Make a Donation: Your financial support is handled with the highest level of accountability. Every donation directly funds the materials for casting, the production of life-changing FAB braces, and the training of dedicated coordinators like Ms. Gyaneshwari. You can contribute directly at cure.org.in/donate.
  • Volunteer: We are always looking for passionate individuals to help us spread awareness in schools, hospitals, and community centers.
  • Advocate for Change: By sharing the news of our work in Mandla, you help break the stigma surrounding clubfoot and ensure that more parents know that help is available—and that it is free.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Anganwadi team at Katra for their commitment. Small steps in awareness today lead to big strides in a child’s tomorrow. Together, we are building a future where no child is left untreated.

Join the movement. Support a child. Change a life.
