The Silent Warriors: Celebrating the Mothers Behind Every Miracle Step at CURE India

In the world of social impact, we often talk about clinical methods, statistics, and organizational scale. We speak of the Ponseti method, the largest clubfoot program in the world, and our ambitious RunFree2030 goals. But this May 2026, as the world celebrates Mother’s Day, CURE India turns its focus to the heartbeat of our mission: the mothers.

Behind every child who takes their first confident step on corrected feet is a mother who has walked a thousand miles of emotional and physical hardship. These women are the silent warriors of the clubfoot journey. They are the ones who transform a medical protocol into a life-changing victory.

The Anatomy of a Mother’s Courage

When a child is born with clubfoot, the initial reaction for many families is one of fear and confusion. In many parts of India, social stigma and a lack of awareness can make this diagnosis feel like a life sentence of disability. It is the mother who usually carries the heaviest burden of this news, yet it is also the mother who first finds the strength to seek a solution.

The journey to a cure is not a sprint; it is a marathon of dedication. A mother’s role in the CURE India model is multifaceted:

  • The Commitment to Casting: For the first several weeks of treatment, the child requires serial plaster casts. This means weekly trips to the clinic, often involving long journeys on public transport, while carrying a child in heavy casts.
  • The Discipline of the FAB: Once the feet are corrected, the child must wear a Foot Abduction Brace (FAB) to prevent relapse. Ensuring a toddler keeps their shoes on for the required hours is a task that requires infinite patience and a mother’s gentle persistence.
  • The Emotional Anchor: During the long nights of "brace-wearing" or the uncertainty of the first few weeks, the mother provides the reassurance that the child needs to thrive.

A Support System Like No Other: CURE India Counsellors

At CURE India, we recognize that we cannot ask a mother to walk this path alone. Our dedicated counsellors are trained to stand beside these families, offering more than just medical advice. They provide emotional scaffolding—turning "I can't" into "we will."

As Dr. Santhosh George, Director of CURE India, beautifully noted:

"Behind every successful clubfoot correction is a mother who never stops believing in her child’s future. Your patience, sacrifices, and unconditional love inspire us every day at CURE India. We salute every mother who walks this journey with courage and hope."

Scaling Hope: From 33% to 70%

The resilience of these mothers is what fuels our national presence. Today, CURE India is proud to be treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. However, our mission, RunFree2030, is a promise to every mother in the country that help is coming. We are scaling our operations to reach 70% of all children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years.

As one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, our growth is built on credibility and transparency of fund usage. When we expand to a new district or open a new clinic, we are essentially creating a sanctuary where a mother can find the Free Treatment and the professional support she needs to change her child's destiny.

Why Your Support Matters This Mother’s Day

Every donation made to CURE India is an investment in a mother’s dream. We are recognized for having the most number of clubfoot children treated in medical history, but those numbers are actually stories of individual mothers who were given the tools to succeed.

  • Donation: Your contribution provides the plaster for casts, the life-altering FAB braces, and the salaries for the counsellors who guide these mothers. Support the mission at cure.org.in/donate.
  • Social Impact: By helping a child walk, you are relieving a mother of the lifelong worry of her child’s dependency. You are giving her the gift of seeing her child go to school, play sports, and grow into an independent adult.
  • Volunteer: Join us in our awareness campaigns. Help us reach that mother in a remote village who doesn't yet know that her child’s condition is 100% treatable through the Ponseti method.

This Mother’s Day, we don't just celebrate the "corrected step"—we celebrate the woman who made that step possible. To the mothers of CURE India: You are our heroes. You are the hearts that make hope walk.
