Awareness is the Cure: CURE India Partners with Frontline Health Workers in Gandhinagar to Ensure No Child is Left Behind

In the quiet neighborhoods of Gandhinagar, Bhopal, a silent revolution is taking place—one that begins with a simple conversation and ends with a child’s first steps. Recently, a dedicated team member from CURE India conducted a pivotal Clubfoot Awareness Program during a local ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) meeting. This engagement wasn't just a presentation; it was a strategic move to empower the very backbone of India’s community health system with the knowledge to prevent lifelong disability.
Clubfoot is a congenital condition where a baby is born with one or both feet turned inward and downward. While the sight can be distressing for families, it is entirely treatable. However, the window for the most effective, non-surgical intervention is narrow. This is where ASHA workers become indispensable.
As the primary link between the community and the healthcare system, these frontline workers are often the first to visit a newborn. By training them in early identification, CURE India ensures that children are diagnosed within days of birth. Early awareness leads to early intervention, which drastically improves the success rate of the treatment and reduces the complexity of care.
At the heart of our clinical success is the Ponseti method. This globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard involves a series of gentle manipulations and corrective plaster casts.
For families in Bhopal and across the nation, CURE India provides Free Treatment. This includes the specialized medical care, the casting process, and the provision of the FAB (Foot Abduction Brace). The FAB is a critical component of the maintenance phase, ensuring the foot remains in the corrected position as the child grows, preventing a relapse. By removing the financial burden, we ensure that a family's economic status never dictates whether their child will walk or spend a lifetime in a wheelchair.
CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country. This distinction is a reflection of our massive social impact and our unwavering commitment to transparency of fund usage. As the largest clubfoot program in the world, we have achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally.
Our national presence spans across every state in India, operating in partnership with government hospitals to make specialized care accessible. Our credibility is built on the thousands of children who are now attending school, playing sports, and dreaming of a future without limitations—all because of the timely intervention made possible by our supporters.
While we celebrate the success of awareness programs in places like Bhopal, we are acutely aware of the scale of the challenge that remains.
To reach that 70% threshold, we must intensify our grassroots efforts. Every ASHA worker trained in Bhopal is a step toward that goal. Every parent informed in a village is a barrier removed. We are moving with urgency and hope, fueled by the belief that a clubfoot-free India is within our reach by the end of this decade.
Building a future where every child can walk, run, and thrive requires a collective effort from donors, medical professionals, and the general public. Your involvement is the engine that drives our clinics and awareness programs.
By supporting CURE India, you are joining a movement that prioritizes transparency, credibility, and, most importantly, the dignity of every child. Let us turn the "Did You Know?" of early awareness into a "Thank You" from a child who just took their first step.
Help us reach the next 70%. Be the reason a child walks today.
