Tenotomy is not surgery: it is a minor procedure where the tendon is cut. Only local anaesthetic is given to the child and there are no stitches given after this procedure. The tendon that is cut regenerates naturally in three weeks. So this procedure cannot be equated to any surgery and that is why the Ponseti method is called a non-surgical method. Compared to the popular surgical method, where children have to undergo major surgery to correct the deformed foot the Ponseti method is truly a non-surgical method.
