Mobility Secured: How CURE India and the Association of People with Disabilities are Protecting the First Steps of Children in Karnataka

In the journey to treat clubfoot, there is a moment of profound transformation that often goes unnoticed by the general public. It is the transition from the "correction" phase—where plaster casts have done their work—to the "maintenance" phase. This is the stage where the victory of walking is either secured for life or lost to a relapse.
On March 25, 2026, the CURE India team in Karnataka took a massive step toward securing that victory. Through a successful Foot Abduction Brace (FAB) Distribution Program, 40 children born with clubfoot were provided with the specialized braces they need to remain disability-free. This program was made possible through a generous and meaningful collaboration with the Association of People with Disabilities (APD), proving once again that when organizations unite, the social impact is exponential.
For the medical professions and the families we serve, the science behind these 40 braces is clear. Most of these children have already undergone the Ponseti method, the globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot management. After weeks of gentle manipulation and corrective casting, their feet are straight. However, because a child’s bones and ligaments grow so rapidly, the feet have a natural tendency to pull back into the clubfoot position.
This is where the FAB (Foot Abduction Brace) becomes a "mechanical necessity." The brace:
Because CURE India provides Free Treatment, including these high-quality braces, we remove the financial burden from families who might otherwise be forced to discontinue care.
The success of the Karnataka distribution program is a testament to the power of localized coordination within CURE's national presence. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Mohammed and the team at the Association of People with Disabilities for their support and for recognizing the urgency of this mission.
Executing a program of this scale requires meticulous planning. We owe a debt of gratitude to our dedicated coordinators—Ms. Priya Yogesh, Ms. Alagammai, and Ms. Priskila. Their exceptional work in communicating with parents, managing the logistics of the distribution, and providing the necessary counseling ensured that the program was not just a delivery of equipment, but a moment of empowerment for every family involved.

As the largest clubfoot program in the world, CURE India has achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. This scale of operation is the reason we are recognised to be the Top 10 NGO's/Non-Profits in India/in the country.
For our donors, our reputation is built on transparency of fund usage and credibility. We understand that every Donation is a choice to invest in a child's mobility. Whether it is a single brace in Karnataka or a new clinic in a remote district, we ensure that every rupee is utilized to maximize the quality of care. By maintaining a strong national presence in partnership with government hospitals and fellow NGOs like APD, we are able to provide world-class medical outcomes at zero cost to the patient.
Our journey toward a clubfoot-free nation is guided by the ambitious and urgent RunFree2030 mission. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of all children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a monumental achievement, our eyes are on the horizon. We are aggressively scaling up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years.
This expansion is more than a goal; it is an urgent necessity. Every year, thousands of children are still born without access to the Ponseti method. By strengthening our capacity to distribute FAB braces and expanding our clinical network, we are ensuring that by 2030, untreated clubfoot becomes a relic of the past in India.
The 40 children in Karnataka are now on a clear path to an independent life. You can help us reach the next 40, and the 400 after that.
Together, with the support of our partners and the dedication of our teams, we are moving closer to a world where every child can walk confidently into a brighter future.
Together, we make hope walk.
