The Art of Ability: What a Professor’s Story Taught Us This Christmas About Inclusion and Hope

This Christmas 2025, the air was filled with more than just the scent of winter pine and the sound of carols. It was filled with a profound sense of listening. At CURE India, we had the distinct privilege of hearing a deeply moving story shared by Dr. Smriti Singh, a Professor at Delhi University. She spoke of a young girl with different abilities—a child who does not let her physical or developmental challenges define her, but instead uses them as a canvas for creativity, expressing her world through the art of making beautiful things.

Her story served as a powerful reminder for all of us: every child, regardless of the challenges they are born with, carries a unique spark of talent and a dream that deserves to be realized. What these children need from us is not sympathy, but opportunity; not pity, but belief; and above all, a world designed for inclusion.

Opportunity Over Sympathy: The CURE India Philosophy

At CURE India and Children in India, we believe that when a child is supported with care, dignity, and access to medical excellence, they don’t just "overcome" a barrier—they shatter it. They create beauty, find confidence, and offer hope to a society that often overlooks their potential.

For many of the families we serve, that barrier is clubfoot. A child born with clubfoot may initially seem limited in their ability to run or play, but through the Ponseti method, we unlock their physical potential. This non-surgical, gold-standard treatment involves a series of gentle manipulations and corrective casts.

By providing Free Treatment, we ensure that a child's artistic or athletic potential is never stifled by their family's financial situation. Once the casting phase is complete, the use of a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace) ensures the correction is maintained, allowing the child to walk into a future where their "different ability" is simply another facet of their unique strength.

A National Presence Rooted in Credibility

As we reflected on Dr. Singh’s story during this "Season of Hope," we were reminded of our responsibility as a leader in the social sector. CURE India is recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country. This recognition is built on our credibility and our absolute transparency of fund usage.

We take pride in being the largest clubfoot program in the world, having treated the most number of clubfoot children globally. With a national presence spanning over 460 clinics, we are working every day to ensure that the "beauty, confidence, and hope" Dr. Singh spoke of is accessible to every child, from the bustling streets of Delhi to the most remote villages.

RunFree2030: Scaling the Spark of Potential

While Christmas is a time to celebrate individual stories of triumph, it is also a time to look at the massive task ahead.

  • The Current Impact: Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India.
  • The Urgent Vision: Our RunFree2030 mission is to scale up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years.

To reach that 70% mark, we must move beyond medical intervention and embrace the spirit of inclusion that Dr. Singh highlighted. We need to build a world where a child who has completed their clubfoot treatment is seen for their creativity and intellect, not their past medical history.

A Call to Action: Be Part of the Story

This Christmas, let us celebrate the strength and limitless potential of children across India. We invite the general public, medical professionals, and donors to turn their compassion into tangible action.

  1. Donate for Impact: Your financial support provides the medical supplies and clinical expertise needed to treat clubfoot. Every Donation is a direct investment in a child's ability to stand tall. Give the gift of movement at: cure.org.in/donate.
  2. Volunteer Your Heart: We need volunteers who believe in inclusion. Whether you can help with awareness drives or support our administrative teams, your time helps us reach more families.
  3. Advocate for Ability: Share the message that clubfoot is treatable and that every child deserves a chance. Help us find the children who are still hidden away, and lead them to a life of dignity.

Because ability shines brightest when nurtured with compassion, let us renew our commitment this Christmas to building a world where every child is seen, heard, and valued.

Together, let’s make every step a beautiful one.

Merry Christmas from the CURE India Family!
