Strengthening the Frontlines in Durg: A Mission for Early Clubfoot Detection

In the journey toward universal mobility, the first and most important milestones are often found in the heart of our villages. For families in Durg, Chhattisgarh, the Anganwadi centre is the primary source of healthcare and nutritional guidance, making it the perfect starting point for identifying clubfoot in newborns.

Recently, our dedicated District Program Coordinator (DPC), Ms. Deeplata Minj, visited two Anganwadi centres to build a stronger network for early identification and referral. This visit wasn't just a meeting—it was a strategic step toward ensuring that medical care reaches children during the critical early weeks of their lives.

Collaboration at the Grassroots

The success of the CURE India Clubfoot Program relies on the eyes and ears of frontline workers. During her visit, Ms. Minj collaborated with Anganwadi workers Ms. Pushpa Sharma and Ms. Soniya Bharadwaj. The interaction focused on:

  • Sharing Vital Knowledge: Understanding that clubfoot is a 100% treatable condition through the non-surgical Ponseti method.
  • The Screening Process: Equipping workers with the skills to screen newborns during routine home visits or at the centre.
  • Effective Referral Pathways: Introducing the direct link to the nearest CURE India clubfoot clinic for immediate, free treatment.

The Power of Knowledge Transfer

As our Director, Dr. Santhosh George, often says:

“Early identification at the community level is the first step towards transforming a child’s life. When frontline workers are empowered with knowledge, we move closer to a future where every child can walk with confidence.”

When workers like Ms. Pushpa and Ms. Soniya are empowered, they become champions for children’s health, ensuring that no child in their community is left untreated due to a lack of awareness.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Durg Anganwadi centres for their active participation and dedication. Your willingness to support early detection is the foundation upon which we build a brighter future for these children.

We also celebrate Ms. Deeplata Minj for her tireless efforts in Chhattisgarh. By strengthening these grassroots pathways, we are moving one step closer to our goal of a disability-free future.

Be a part of the change. Every child deserves the chance to walk, run, and play. Your support helps us train more frontline workers and treat more children.
