Setting the Gold Standard in Karnataka: The Inauguration of the Clubfoot Centre of Excellence

In a significant stride toward a future where every child in India walks with dignity, the state of Karnataka has reached a historic milestone. The official inauguration of our Clubfoot Centre of Excellence marks a transformative shift in how we approach pediatric disability. This isn't just a clinic; it is a specialized hub designed to centralize expertise, elevate treatment standards, and provide a beacon of hope for thousands of families.

The ceremony was graced by the Honourable Minister Dr. Sharanaprakash Patil, Minister of Medical Education, whose presence underscores the vital importance of integrating specialized orthopedic care into the national healthcare fabric. Accompanied by T. A. Sharavana, Member of the Legislative Council, the Honourable Minister unveiled the commemorative plaque and toured the facility, gaining firsthand insight into the meticulous clinical models that define CURE India’s success.

The Architecture of Healing: Expertise and Innovation

The Centre of Excellence serves as a training and treatment powerhouse. During the tour, world-renowned experts Dr. Mathew Varghese and Dr. Rudra Prasad provided detailed demonstrations of the Ponseti method—the globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot management.

By showcasing the journey from initial diagnosis to the final stages of mobility, our experts highlighted the "mechanical necessity" of early intervention. This centre is designed to be a learning ground for medical professions, ensuring that the highest quality of care is disseminated across CURE's national presence. It is here that innovation meets compassion, ensuring that children are not just treated but are successfully brought into the mainstream of society.

The Science of a Lifetime: Ponseti and the FAB

For the general public and parents navigating a clubfoot diagnosis, understanding the treatment is the first step toward healing. The Ponseti method allows for full correction in over 95% of cases without the need for invasive, expensive surgery.

The process involves:

  • Corrective Casting: A series of gentle manipulations and weekly plaster casts that gradually realign the foot.
  • Maintenance with the FAB: Once correction is achieved, the child is fitted with a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace). This specialized brace is the most critical tool in preventing relapse.

Because CURE India provides Free Treatment and supplies the necessary FAB braces at no cost, we remove the financial barriers that often prevent children from receiving life-changing care.

A Legacy of Credibility: CURE India’s Global Leadership

As the largest clubfoot program in the world, CURE India has achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. This scale of operation is exactly why we are recognised to be the Top 10 NGO's/Non-Profits in India/in the country.

For our donors, our reputation is built on a foundation of absolute credibility and transparency of fund usage. We understand that every Donation is a choice to invest in a child's future independence. Our presence in premier medical institutions across Karnataka ensures that every rupee contributed directly supports the clinical supplies, specialized braces, and expert training required to sustain this social impact.

The Vision: RunFree2030

Our journey toward a clubfoot-free nation is guided by the ambitious and urgent RunFree2030 mission. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of all children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a monumental achievement, we are acutely aware of the children who still lack access to care. We are aggressively scaling up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years.

The Karnataka Centre of Excellence is a critical engine for this expansion. By strengthening care systems and fostering partnerships with the Ministry of Medical Education, we are ensuring that by 2030, no child in India is left untreated due to a lack of resources or geographical barriers.
