Season of Giving: CURE India and Dignitaries Spread Festive Cheer at North Bengal Medical College & Hospital

The festive season is often defined by lights, gifts, and gatherings, but at CURE India, we believe the truest spirit of the holidays is found in the smiles of children who are finding their footing—quite literally. This December, our clinic at the North Bengal Medical College & Hospital (NBMC&H) in Siliguri was transformed into a space of joy, warmth, and community as we hosted a special Pre-Christmas celebration for children born with clubfoot and their families.

In the midst of medical consultations and casting, the air was filled with laughter, proving that compassionate healthcare goes far beyond clinical procedures.

Honoured Guests and Heartfelt Gestures

The celebration was made even more significant by the presence of Mr. Puran Lama, a close and humble associate of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee, who visited the clinic along with his wife, Mrs. Anjana Lama.

Their visit was not merely a formal appearance; it was an act of genuine kindness. Mr. and Mrs. Lama personally interacted with the children and their parents, sharing tokens of gifts and festive cheer. Such gestures of solidarity from community leaders provide immense emotional strength to families who are often navigating the long and sometimes challenging journey of clubfoot correction. We express our deepest gratitude to them for their generosity and their continued support of our mission in West Bengal.

The Journey of Healing: The Ponseti Method

While Christmas is a time for celebration, it also serves as a reminder of why our work is so urgent. For a child born with clubfoot, the gift of a "normal" childhood is made possible through the Ponseti method. This non-surgical, gold-standard treatment is the cornerstone of our work. It involves:

  1. Gentle Manipulation and Casting: A series of plaster casts that gradually move the foot into the correct position.
  2. A Minor Procedure: Often required to release the Achilles tendon.
  3. The FAB (Foot Abduction Brace): A specialized brace worn to ensure the correction is maintained as the child grows.

At CURE India, we provide this as Free Treatment, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints. By removing the cost barrier, we allow families to focus entirely on their child's recovery and future.

A National Leader with a Global Footprint

CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India. This recognition is a reflection of our massive social impact and our position as the largest clubfoot program in the world. To date, we have treated the most number of clubfoot children globally, and our national presence extends to over 460 clinics across every state in the country.

Our success is built on two pillars: Credibility and Transparency. We understand that our donors—from individual contributors to corporate partners—want to know that their Donation is making a tangible difference. We strive for absolute transparency of fund usage, ensuring that every rupee contributes to the clinical supplies, coordinator support, and community outreach required to end clubfoot disability.

The Road to RunFree2030

As we look toward the New Year, our focus remains on the thousands of children still waiting for help. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a significant portion, it means that many children are still at risk of living a life of preventable disability.

Our RunFree2030 mission is our commitment to these children. We are aggressively scaling up our operations to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years. Achieving this goal requires more than just medical expertise; it requires a movement.

How You Can Help This Season

The "Season of Giving" is the perfect time to join the CURE India family. Whether you are a medical professional, a student, or a member of the general public, there are several ways to support our mission:

  • Make a Donation: Your financial support provides the casts and FAB braces that turn a disability into a life of mobility.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Help us in our clinics, assist with documentation, or join our community awareness drives.
  • Advocate: Share the stories of our "CURE Champions" and let your network know that clubfoot is treatable and that free help is available.

Events like the one at North Bengal Medical College & Hospital remind us that behind every statistic is a child, a family, and a story of hope. This Christmas, help us ensure that every child in India has the chance to walk, run, and thrive.

Together, let’s make hope walk.
