Awareness as the First Step: How CURE India is Partnering with Anganwadi Workers to Eradicate Clubfoot Disability in Delhi Cantt

In the bustling community of Kirby Place, Delhi Cantt, a vital conversation took place that could change the trajectory of hundreds of lives. CURE India recently conducted a specialized awareness session at the local Anganwadi Centre, led by our Delhi State Program Coordinator (SPC), Ms. Rekha.
This session was more than just an educational workshop; it was a strategic effort to empower the frontline of India’s child-care system—the Anganwadi workers and caregivers. By equipping these dedicated individuals with the tools to identify clubfoot and other disabilities at the earliest stages, we are building a safety net that ensures no child is left behind due to a lack of information or access to care.
For families navigating the early days of a child's life, an Anganwadi worker is often the most trusted medical advisor. When these workers are sensitized to the early signs of clubfoot—a condition where a baby’s feet are turned inward and downward—they become the bridge between a lifelong disability and a future of mobility.
Ms. Rekha’s session focused on three critical pillars:
The Ponseti method is the globally recognized gold standard for clubfoot treatment. It is a non-surgical, evidence-based approach that relies on the natural flexibility of a newborn's ligaments. Through a series of gentle manipulations and corrective plaster casts, the feet are gradually brought into the correct position.
Following the casting phase, children are provided with a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace). This specialized brace is essential for maintaining the correction and preventing relapse as the child grows. At CURE India, we provide Free Treatment, ensuring that high-quality, life-changing care is never a financial burden for the families we serve.
Our work at the Kirby Place Anganwadi Centre is a microcosm of our national presence. CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country, a distinction earned through years of credibility and a commitment to the transparency of fund usage.
As the largest clubfoot program in the world, we have achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. Currently, our clinics operate in partnership with government hospitals across every state in India, providing a seamless pathway from diagnosis to "triumph."
| Metric | Current Impact | 2030 Goal |
| Children Treated | 33% of India's annual births | 70% of India's annual births |
| National Reach | 460+ Clinics | Expanded District Network |
| Treatment Cost | Free to all families | Continued Free Access |
While we celebrate the successful sensitization of the Delhi Cantt community, we remain focused on the ambitious goal of our RunFree2030 mission. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. This is a significant milestone, but it means thousands of children are still living with a treatable disability.
We are aggressively scaling up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years. To achieve this, we need to replicate the Kirby Place session in every district and taluka across the nation. This expansion requires more than just medical expertise; it requires a collective movement from the general public, medical professionals, and donors.
Every "first step" a child takes is a victory for our entire community. You can play a vital role in this transformation:
By supporting CURE India, you are joining a mission that prioritizes empathy, medical excellence, and the dignity of every child. Together, let’s ensure that every child in India has the opportunity to walk, run, and dream without limits.
Together, we make hope walk.
