Awareness at the Doorstep: CURE India’s Grassroots Mission in Sindhudurg to Ensure Every Child Walks Free

In the quiet coastal district of Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, the path to a disability-free future often begins under the roof of an Anganwadi. Recently, our dedicated team member, Ms. Rushali, visited a community center in Kudal to bridge the gap between a hidden birth defect and a life-changing cure. This visit wasn’t just about sharing information; it was about dismantling the stigma surrounding clubfoot and replacing it with the hopeful reality of Free Treatment.
At CURE India, we know that for families in rural India, the journey to healing doesn't start at a hospital—it starts with awareness at the grassroots level.
Clubfoot is a condition that can be detected at birth, yet many children in remote areas grow up with a permanent disability simply because their parents didn't know it was treatable. By engaging with caregivers and community members at Anganwadis, Ms. Rushali and the CURE team are ensuring that "lack of information" is no longer a barrier to a child's mobility.
The message is clear: Clubfoot is not a curse or a permanent limitation. When identified early, it can be corrected entirely without invasive surgery through the Ponseti method.
The Ponseti method is the globally accepted, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot management. It relies on the natural flexibility of a newborn's ligaments and tendons. The process involves:
Because CURE India provides this as Free Treatment, we remove the financial burden that often prevents rural families from seeking professional help. By the time these children reach school age, they are running and playing alongside their peers, their feet straight and strong.
Our work in Sindhudurg is part of a much larger story. CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country. As the largest clubfoot program in the world, we have achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally.
Our national presence spans across every state, operating in partnership with government health schemes like RBSK. This scale is only possible because of our commitment to credibility and the transparency of fund usage. We believe that every Donation is a sacred trust. Whether you are a corporate partner or an individual donor, you can rest assured that your support is directly funding the casts, the braces, and the clinical expertise required to change a life.
While we celebrate every successful outreach in Maharashtra, our eyes are on a bold horizon. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. This is a significant achievement, but it means two out of every three children are still not receiving the care they deserve.
Under our RunFree2030 initiative, we are scaling up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years. To achieve this, we need to replicate Ms. Rushali's efforts in Kudal across every district in the country. We are working to build a future where no child is left behind, regardless of their geography or economic status.
The social impact of a single corrected foot is immense. It means a child goes to school, a young adult enters the workforce, and a family is lifted out of the shadow of disability. You can be a part of this transformation:
Grassroots awareness in Sindhudurg is just the beginning. With your support, we can turn every Anganwadi visit into a victory for a child born with clubfoot.
Together, let's build a clubfoot-free India.
