Strengthening Grassroots Networks: CURE India Partners with ICDS Centers in Malda to Ensure Early Detection and a Future Without Disability.

In the heart of Malda, West Bengal, the battle against congenital disability is being fought not just in hospitals, but in the small, vital community hubs known as ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) centers. Recently, Ms. Ruma Chatterjee, our District Program Coordinator (DPC), took to the field to strengthen the very foundation of our mission: grassroots awareness.
By connecting with dedicated Anganwadi workers at the B B Road ICDS (Mrs. Neha Das), Muslimpur ICDS (Mrs. Priya Roy), and Bag Bari ICDS (Mrs. Sandhya Dosad), CURE India is weaving a safety net that ensures no child born with clubfoot falls through the cracks. These frontline heroes are the first point of contact for thousands of families, making them the most powerful allies in our quest for a "run-free" India.
For a child born with clubfoot, the difference between a life of mobility and a life of disability often comes down to one thing: Early Identification. Anganwadi workers are uniquely positioned to spot the condition immediately after birth. When these workers are empowered with the right knowledge, they can guide parents toward the Ponseti method—the global gold standard for non-surgical clubfoot correction.
During her field visit, Ms. Chatterjee focused on enhancing the referral pathways. By educating workers like Mrs. Das, Mrs. Roy, and Mrs. Dosad, we ensure that the moment a child is identified with clubfoot in Malda, they are fast-tracked to one of our clinics for Free Treatment. This proactive approach is the cornerstone of building a responsive community network dedicated to child health.
This local initiative in Malda is a vital branch of a massive national effort. CURE India is recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India, a distinction earned through our unwavering commitment to social impact and transparency of fund usage.
We are proud to operate the largest clubfoot program in the world. To date, CURE India has documented the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. Our national presence means that whether a child is born in the rural stretches of West Bengal or the bustling streets of Delhi, the hope of walking with dignity is always within reach.
The work being done at the roots in Malda is what fuels our ambitious national goals. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. However, we refuse to stop there. Our mission is to scale this impact to 70% of all children born with the condition in the next 5 years.
This goal is the heart of RunFree2030. To achieve this, we provide:
Transforming a child's life requires more than just medical expertise; it requires the collective support of the general public, medical professionals, and donors. When we reach the roots, we change lives—but we cannot do it alone.
1. Make a Donation: Your financial support is handled with the highest level of credibility and transparency. Every donation directly impacts our ability to provide braces, training for workers, and clinical support. You can contribute today at cure.org.in/donate.
2. Volunteer with Us: We are always looking for passionate individuals to help us expand our awareness networks in schools, ICDS centers, and local communities.
3. Advocate for Awareness: Knowledge is the enemy of disability. By sharing the news of our work in Malda, you help break the myths surrounding clubfoot and encourage more families to seek help.
Every connection made at the grassroots brings us one step closer to a future where no child is left untreated. Together, we are creating pathways for every child to walk, run, and thrive with confidence.
