When Academia Meets Social Impact: How Empowered Youth Are Driving Grassroots Advocacy and Creating Confident Footsteps for Children Across India.

True education extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. It lives in the communities we serve and the lives we help transform. Recently, CURE India had the distinct privilege of hosting a bright, dedicated cohort of students from Kamala Nehru College for a deeply meaningful internship journey. Focused on social impact, community health awareness, and child rehabilitation, these young change-makers stepped up to become the voice for children born with clubfoot and their families.
The internship concluded with a celebratory certificate distribution ceremony led by our Director, Dr. Santhosh George, who commended the youth for their unwavering dedication, compassion, and rigorous advocacy efforts.
During their time with CURE India, the students from Kamala Nehru College were immersed in the realities of public health management and grassroots mobilization. They learned about the profound challenges associated with congenital physical disabilities, but more importantly, they learned about the solution: the Ponseti method.
As the global gold standard for clubfoot treatment, the Ponseti method is a non-surgical, highly effective treatment involving serial plaster casting followed by the use of a specialized FAB (Foot Abduction Brace). By equipping these young minds with deep clinical and structural knowledge of the program, CURE India has raised a new generation of advocates who can confidently educate the public, dispel deep-seated cultural stigmas, and guide families toward seeking Free Treatment early.
"When academic institutions and social organisations work together, they create future leaders who not only learn professionally but also contribute meaningfully to society. We are not just completing internships; we are building compassionate leaders." — Dr. Santhosh George, Director, CURE India
The enthusiasm of the Kamala Nehru College students directly fuels our ambitious national roadmap. Recognized widely as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India, CURE India operates the largest clubfoot program in the world. To date, our medical networks have documented the most number of clubfoot children treated in healthcare history, sustained entirely by our foundational pillars of institutional credibility and total transparency of fund usage.
The students' advocacy projects are critical as we scale up our interventions across CURE's national presence.
Achieving this requires a massive influx of community awareness—the exact kind of energy, digital advocacy, and fieldwork brought to the table by these college interns.
An impactful engagement like this is only possible when institutional leadership prioritizes social responsibility. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ritu for her invaluable guidance, encouragement, and seamless collaboration throughout this program.
We also sincerely thank the Principal, the faculty members, and the entire Kamala Nehru College administration for nurturing socially conscious youth who are ready to serve vulnerable communities with empathy, integrity, and purpose.
The internship may have concluded, but the mission continues. The collective power of the general public, corporate partners, medical professionals, and student volunteers is what keeps our clinics running.
Together, we are transforming lives, strengthening communities, and ensuring that every child born with clubfoot can walk, run, and dream freely toward a brighter tomorrow.
