Making Headlines in Bhopal: CURE India and GMC Bhopal’s Decadel-Long Fight Against Clubfoot

When a mission is fueled by passion and backed by results, it eventually catches the eye of the nation. We are incredibly proud to share that Patrika, one of India’s leading news publications, has prominently featured the National Training and Workshop on Diagnosis and Treatment of Clubfoot held at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal.

This media recognition is not just a headline for us; it is a validation of the hard work done by medical professionals, the resilience of families, and the unwavering support of our donors. As one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, CURE India (often referred to as CURE) continues to demonstrate that with the right partnership, a clubfoot-free future is not just a dream—it is a developing reality.

A Legacy of 2,000 Steps at Hamidia Hospital

The feature in Patrika highlighted a staggering achievement: the Orthopaedics Department of GMC Bhopal, through the Clubfoot Clinic at Hamidia Hospital, has been a beacon of hope for 13 years. In that time, they have successfully corrected the feet of more than 2,000 children.

These aren't just statistics. Each of those 2,000 children represents a life saved from permanent disability. By using the Ponseti method—the non-surgical, gold-standard treatment involving gentle manipulation and serial casting—these children are now walking, running, and attending school with confidence.

Why National Workshops Matter

The National Training and Workshop featured in the news served a dual purpose. First, it reinforced the critical message that early diagnosis is the key. When clubfoot is identified at birth, the correction is faster, easier, and highly effective.

Second, it strengthened the national presence of CURE India. By bringing together experts and local healthcare providers, we ensure that the same high-quality, Free Treatment available in major metros reaches the heart of Madhya Pradesh. These workshops are essential for capacity building, ensuring that every doctor is equipped with the latest skills to implement the Ponseti method and correctly fit the FAB (Foot Abduction Brace).

From 33% to 70%: The RunFree2030 Vision

CURE India is currently the largest clubfoot program in the world, with the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. However, our work in Bhopal is just one piece of a massive national puzzle.

  • Current Impact: We are currently treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India.
  • The Future: Our RunFree2030 mission aims to scale this up to 70% in the next 5 years.

To reach this goal, we rely on the credibility we have built over decades. Being recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in the country allows us to partner with prestigious institutions like GMC Bhopal, ensuring that our social impact is both deep and sustainable.

Transparency and Your Contribution

A mission of this scale requires immense resources. We strive toward total transparency of fund usage, ensuring that every donation made to CURE India is tracked and utilized to provide medical supplies, braces, and specialized training. When you donate, you are directly contributing to the success stories seen in publications like Patrika.

We invite the general public to join us in this movement. There are many ways to help:

  • Donation: Your financial support keeps our clinics running and our treatment free for every child.
  • Volunteer: We ask people to volunteer their time to help with awareness drives and supporting families during their treatment journey.
  • Awareness: Share this news! The more people know that clubfoot is treatable for free, the more children we can save from disability.

A Hopeful Path Forward

The 13-year journey at GMC Bhopal and the 2,000 children treated are proof that our model works. We extend our deepest gratitude to the faculty and staff of GMC Bhopal, the team at Hamidia Hospital, and the journalists at Patrika for shining a light on this cause.

Every child deserves the chance to walk with confidence. Together, through RunFree2030, we will ensure that every step counts toward a clubfoot-free India.
