The Classroom as a Clinic of Hope: How Grassroots Awareness in Bihar is Identifying the "Invisible" Children Born with Clubfoot

In the heart of Bihar, where community ties are strong but access to specialized healthcare can often be a challenge, CURE India is pioneering a movement of "informed identification." On April 7, 2026, our dedicated State Program Coordinator (SPC), Ranjana Ruth John, conducted a series of impactful outreach activities across schools in Bhagalpur.
This initiative is a critical component of our national presence. While our clinics provide the medical cure, our outreach programs provide the "social cure"—dismantling the stigma and lack of awareness that often keep children with disabilities hidden away. By engaging with students, teachers, and school staff, we are turning Bhagalpur’s educational institutions into the first line of defense against lifelong disability.
Targeting schools is a strategic choice. Teachers and school administrators are often the most trusted voices in a community. They interact with families daily and are uniquely positioned to notice when a child is struggling with mobility or is absent from school due to a physical deformity.
During these sessions, the focus remained on three non-negotiable pillars:
By educating young minds, we are also creating "child ambassadors." When a student learns that clubfoot is curable, they take that message home to their parents and neighbors, potentially identifying a sibling or a cousin who needs help. This grassroots ripple effect is what truly transforms a society.
For the medical professions and the general public supporting our cause, it is essential to highlight the science that follows an awareness drive. At CURE India, we exclusively utilize the Ponseti method—the globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot treatment.
The treatment is a journey of precision:
Because CURE India is committed to total accessibility, we provide Free Treatment and the necessary FAB braces at no cost to the parents. By removing the financial barrier, we ensure that a child's ability to walk is never a question of their family's income.
"Every child deserves the chance to walk, learn, and thrive. In Bhagalpur, we aren't just correcting feet; we are correcting futures." — Ranjana Ruth John, SPC
CURE India is proud to be recognised to be the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country. This distinction is a direct result of our commitment to transparency of fund usage and measurable social impact. As the largest clubfoot program in the world, we have achieved the distinction of having treated the most number of clubfoot children globally.
For our donors, your Donation is more than just a financial contribution; it is a sacred trust. Our rigorous clinical oversight and partnership with government hospitals across Bihar ensure that every rupee is directed toward the medical supplies, training, and specialized braces required to change a child's life forever.
Our outreach in Bhagalpur is a critical piece of the RunFree2030 mission. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of all children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a landmark achievement, we are acutely aware that thousands of children are still waiting. We are aggressively scaling up to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years.
Expansion into districts like Bhagalpur is how we move the needle. By decentralizing awareness and strengthening our grassroots connections, we are ensuring that by 2030, untreated clubfoot becomes a thing of the past in India.
The outreach in Bihar is a call to action. We cannot reach our 70% target without the collective support of the general public and compassionate supporters.
Together, with the support of dedicated team members like Ms. Ranjana Ruth John and our community partners, we are ensuring that every child in Bhagalpur can walk confidently into a brighter, more mobile future.
Together, we make hope walk.
