Beyond the Clinic: Strengthening the First Point of Care in Gujarat to Reach Our RunFree2030 Goal

In the heart of Godhra, Gujarat, a quiet but powerful shift is happening in how communities perceive childhood disability. At CURE India (often known simply as CURE), we know that the journey to a clubfoot-free future doesn’t start in an operating theater—it starts at the "first point of care." Recently, our dedicated District Programme Coordinator (DPC) visited a local Anganwadi Centre to conduct a vital awareness session, proving once again that knowledge is the best medicine for preventing lifelong disability.
As one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, CURE India is committed to reaching every corner of the country. By empowering Anganwadi workers—the true frontline warriors of community health—we ensure that families in Godhra have the information they need the moment a child is born with Clubfoot.
Anganwadi workers are uniquely positioned to change lives because they have the trust of mothers and caregivers. They are often the first to see a newborn and the first to notice if a child’s feet are turned inward.
Our session in Godhra focused on:
When we strengthen knowledge at this level, we don't just treat a condition; we prevent a child from ever knowing the limitations of a disability. This is the essence of our social impact.
For the parents we meet through these outreach programs, the biggest relief is learning that their child can be cured without invasive surgery. CURE India utilizes the Ponseti method, the non-surgical gold standard recognized globally.
This treatment involves a series of gentle manipulations and weekly plaster casts that gradually move the foot into the correct position. Following the casting phase, children are fitted with a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace) to maintain the correction as they grow. Because of our national presence and the generosity of our supporters, we are able to provide these high-quality braces and all clinical care at no cost to the family.
CURE India is currently the largest clubfoot program in the world, with the most number of clubfoot children treated on record (over 1,18,000 and counting). While we have earned our place as a Top 10 NGO in the country, we aren't resting on our laurels.
Our RunFree2030 initiative is an ambitious roadmap for the future:
We know that when you choose to make a donation, you are looking for credibility and transparency of fund usage. As a Top 10 NGO, we hold ourselves to the highest standards. Every rupee contributed to CURE India is funneled directly into:
We also ask people to volunteer their time. Whether it's helping us with community mapping or assisting in awareness drives, your physical presence adds to our collective strength.
The successful interaction in Godhra is a reminder that when we unite—NGOs, healthcare workers, and the general public—no child has to be left behind. A child identified today in a small Gujarat village is a child who will walk to school, run on a playground, and live a life of dignity tomorrow.
Together, we are making "disability-free" a reality for the next generation.
