Grassroots Guardians: How Gaya’s Mahila Sangh is Securing a Future of Mobility

At CURE India, we believe that the most powerful tool in our clinical kit is an informed community. When we empower local networks with the knowledge to recognize and act upon clubfoot, we create a safety net that no child can fall through. Recently, our District Programme Coordinator (DPC) for Gaya, Bihar, Ms. Poltena Caustin, brought this vision to life through a targeted outreach session with the local Mahila Sangh.

Empowering the Heart of the Community

The Mahila Sangh serves as the social and emotional backbone of the community. By engaging directly with these women, Ms. Caustin turned a standard informational session into a powerful engine for change:

  • Recognition at Birth: Providing the tools to identify the physical signs of clubfoot immediately, ensuring the window for early intervention is never missed.
  • Myth-Busting & Stigma Reduction: Correcting the misconception that clubfoot is a permanent condition or a burden, and replacing it with the reality that it is a treatable condition.
  • The Power of Referral: Teaching women how to connect families to our Free Treatment program, effectively bridging the gap between a rural home and a specialized clinic.

"One informed mother can transform a child's life. One aware community can transform many."

CURE India: Institutional Credibility in Bihar

As one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, CURE India is recognized not only for the largest clubfoot program in the world but for our deep commitment to institutional transparency of fund usage.

  • Our Impact: We have documented the most number of clubfoot children treated in history.
  • Our Mission: Through grassroots efforts like Ms. Poltena Caustin's, we are scaling our national reach from 33% to 70% of all children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years through our #RunFree2030 vision.
  • Our Promise: Every donation we receive funds the casting, braces, and clinical support that empower children to transition from disability to independence.

Gratitude & Call to Action

We extend our sincere thanks to the members of the Mahila Sangh for their active participation and their commitment to the children of Gaya. Your voices are the most effective advocates we have.

How You Can Help:

  1. Donate: Your donation funds the materials and outreach required to reach remote villages. Support our work at cure.org.in/donate.
  2. Advocate: Help us demystify clubfoot. When families know that effective, non-surgical treatment exists via the Ponseti method, they are empowered to seek care.
  3. Stay Connected: Join us in our journey across Bihar and beyond as we work to make the #RunFree2030 goal a reality.

Together, we are not just correcting feet; we are empowering a generation to walk, run, and dream without limitations.
