120 Hearts, One Vision: How Awareness at Akshara School is Bridging the Gap for Children with Clubfoot and Autism in Andhra Pradesh.

In the classroom, we often teach children about the world around them. But recently, at Akshara School in Nellore, a different kind of education took center stage—one that teaches children how to change the world.
Led by our dedicated District Program Coordinator (DPC), Ms. K. Anuradha, and the CRC team, an intensive awareness session reached 120 students and staff members. This initiative went beyond academic learning, focusing on two critical areas of child development and social inclusion: Clubfoot and Autism. By bringing these conversations to the grassroots level, CURE India is ensuring that the future of Andhra Pradesh is one of empathy, early intervention, and dignity.
While these two conditions are different, the path to a better life for affected children is the same: Early Identification and Community Support.
For Clubfoot, the message delivered to the 120 participants was clear—this is a completely treatable condition. When identified at birth or in early infancy, children can undergo the Ponseti method, a non-surgical gold standard of care that uses gentle manipulation and casting.
For Autism, the session focused on fostering a culture of inclusion. Understanding neurodiversity within a school setting helps reduce stigma and ensures that children on the spectrum are not just "seen" but truly "supported." As Santhosh George, Director of CURE India, shares: “Awareness at the grassroots level is the foundation of early intervention. When communities understand conditions like clubfoot, we can ensure that no child is left untreated or unseen.”
This local session in Nellore is part of a massive, nationwide machinery. CURE India is recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, a reputation built on years of clinical excellence and radical transparency of fund usage.
We currently operate the largest clubfoot program in the world, having reached the most number of clubfoot children treated in medical history. Our national presence allows us to scale medical solutions to the most remote corners of the country, ensuring that high-quality healthcare is not a luxury, but a right.
Our work is driven by an ambitious, data-backed vision. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this impact is massive, we are not slowing down. Our goal is to scale this reach to 70% of children in the next 5 years through our RunFree2030 mission.
To make this a reality, we focus on:
Every awareness session, every brace provided, and every child who takes their first "run-free" step is made possible by the collective support of donors, medical professionals, and parents.
At CURE India, we prioritize transparency. When you make a donation, you are not just giving money; you are providing the plaster for a cast, the materials for a brace, and the training for coordinators like Ms. K. Anuradha to educate more communities.
By reaching young minds at schools like Akshara, we are building a more informed and inclusive future. Together, we move one step closer to ensuring that every child walks with dignity.
