Awareness in the Classroom: CURE India Partners with Z.P. School, Baji Umrad to Ensure Every Child in Jalna Walks Toward a Brighter Future

In the rural landscapes of Jalna, Maharashtra, the path to ending childhood disability often passes through the local school gates. Recently, our dedicated District Program Coordinator (DPC), Ms. Pooja Sandeep Bhosle, conducted a vital awareness visit at Z.P. School, Baji Umrad. This initiative highlights a core truth of our mission: when educators and healthcare advocates join hands, we create a powerful network that ensures no child remains hidden behind a treatable disability.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Shabbir Sheikh, the school representative, whose cooperation was instrumental in facilitating this session. By bringing the message of clubfoot awareness directly to the heart of the community, we are ensuring that teachers and parents alike understand that clubfoot is not a permanent limitation, but a treatable condition.
Clubfoot is a congenital deformity that affects thousands of infants in India every year. If left untreated, it leads to a lifetime of physical, social, and economic hardship. However, the "window of opportunity" for non-surgical correction is widest shortly after birth.
Through school-based programs like the one in Jalna, we empower the community to recognize the signs of clubfoot and act immediately. Early identification allows us to implement the Ponseti method when a child's ligaments and tendons are most flexible, leading to a faster and more effective recovery.
At CURE India, we utilize the Ponseti method, the globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot treatment. This treatment is highly effective and consists of three main phases:
Because CURE India provides Free Treatment and the necessary FAB braces, we remove the financial barriers that often prevent rural families from seeking care. We believe that every child deserves the chance to walk, run, and attend school—just like their peers at Z.P. School, Baji Umrad.
Our work in Jalna is a vital component of the largest clubfoot program in the world. CURE India is currently recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India/in the country. This prestige is rooted in our credibility and our unwavering commitment to the transparency of fund usage.
Our national presence—operating in over 460 clinics across every state—allows us to reach even the most remote districts. To date, we have achieved the distinction of having the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. Every Donation we receive is an investment in a child’s independence, and we pride ourselves on ensuring that these funds directly facilitate the clinical work performed by coordinators like Ms. Pooja.
While we celebrate every successful awareness session, we are acutely aware of the scale of the challenge that remains.
To jump from 33% to 70% coverage, we must multiply our grassroots efforts. We need to reach every village, every school, and every health center in Maharashtra and beyond. This scale-up is an urgent necessity—for every child we reach, a potential lifetime of disability is transformed into a life of opportunity.
Ending clubfoot disability in India is a goal within our reach, but it requires the collective action of donors, medical professionals, and the general public.
The visit to Z.P. School in Jalna is a reminder that awareness is the first step toward healing. Together, let’s ensure that every child in India has the opportunity to walk, run, and thrive.
Together, we make hope walk.
