Frontline Health Champions in West Bengal Gain Crucial Tools for Early Clubfoot Identification and Referral.

Can early grassroots training reshape public healthcare access? When we equip frontline health workers with the right knowledge, the answer is a resounding yes.
On September 12, 2026, Reshmi Saha, State Program Coordinator for West Bengal at CURE India, conducted a comprehensive clubfoot awareness session for 46 ASHA workers at Sarenga Block, Bankura. The session was organized in close coordination with Mr. Nurul Babu, ASHA Coordinator for Sarenga Block.
ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers are the absolute backbone of rural healthcare. Operating directly within villages, they serve as the first point of contact for families welcoming a newborn, making them indispensable partners in early detection and intervention.
The interactive session focused on three critical pillars of pediatric care:
A key outcome of the session was establishing a direct referral link for the community. We strongly encourage all ASHA workers and local families to refer children born with clubfoot from Sarenga BPHC straight to the dedicated Clubfoot Clinic at Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital, where comprehensive treatment is provided completely free of cost.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Nurul Babu, the 46 dedicated ASHA workers of Sarenga Block, and our state team for their unwavering commitment to child health.
As one of the Top 10 NGO’s in India, CURE India operates the largest clubfoot program in the world. Our grassroots efforts are anchored by absolute transparency of fund usage and strict institutional credibility, ensuring that every regional training workshop scales our progress toward our ultimate national target: treating 70% of all children born with clubfoot in India by 2030 (#RunFree2030).
"Together, we are working towards a future where every child has the opportunity to walk without limitation."
Grassroots advocacy plants the seed of hope, but community and donor support keeps our clinic doors open.
Together, we are ensuring that no child in India faces clubfoot alone.
