Partnership in Progress: Why Home Visits and Parental Counseling are the Secret Ingredients to a Clubfoot-Free India.

In the clinical world, success is often measured by the angle of a bone or the flexibility of a joint. But at CURE India, we know that a truly successful correction is measured by the confidence in a child’s stride and the peace of mind in a mother’s heart.
Recently, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, this philosophy was put into practice by our dedicated team member, Ms. Ekata Sawant. Through a personalized home visit, she bridged the gap between a medical prescription and a life-changing reality. This visit underscores a vital truth: while the Ponseti method provides the cure, it is the partnership between counselors and families that ensures the cure lasts a lifetime.
The treatment of clubfoot is a journey of two halves. The first half happens in the clinic with serial casting. The second—and often more difficult—half happens at home. Once the feet are corrected, the child must wear a Foot Abduction Brace (FAB) to prevent the deformity from returning.
For a young child, wearing a brace for several hours a day can be a challenge. For a parent, seeing their child in a brace can be emotionally taxing. This is where the role of the CURE India counselor becomes indispensable. During her visit in Kolhapur, Ms. Ekata didn't just "check" on a patient; she empowered a mother.
By explaining the "why" behind the FAB, demonstrating proper skin care, and reinforcing the importance of regular follow-ups, she transformed a medical requirement into a mission of love. This level of social impact is what happens when clinical excellence meets deep, empathetic counseling.
This grassroots approach in Maharashtra is part of a much larger, sophisticated infrastructure. CURE India is proud to be recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO’s in the country, a title earned through years of dedicated service and radical transparency of fund usage.
We operate the largest clubfoot program in the world, maintaining a national presence that spans every state and union territory. Our credibility is built on the fact that we don't just provide Free Treatment; we provide a comprehensive support system that follows the child from their first cast to their final brace check. To date, CURE India has documented the most number of clubfoot children treated in medical history—a milestone that would be impossible without our network of counselors.
| The Pillars of the CURE Model | Functional Goal |
| Medical Excellence | Utilizing the Ponseti method to ensure non-surgical correction. |
| Counseling & Support | Empowering parents to become the primary advocates for their child's health. |
| Accessibility | Providing high-quality FAB braces and clinical care at no cost to the family. |
| Grassroots Mobilization | Conducting home visits to ensure treatment compliance and build community trust. |
The work being done by Ms. Ekata in Kolhapur is the heartbeat of our RunFree2030 initiative. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a monumental achievement, we know there are still thousands of children waiting for their chance to walk.
Our goal is clear and urgent: we are scaling up our operations to reach 70% of children born with clubfoot in the next 5 years. Achieving this requires more than just more clinics; it requires more counselors who are willing to travel the extra mile—literally—to visit families in their homes, address their fears, and motivate them to stay the course.
Every corrected foot is a step toward an India where disability no longer dictates a child's destiny. Your involvement ensures that the "CURE India model" reaches every doorstep in the country.
At CURE India, we are not just fixing feet; we are strengthening families and restoring dreams. Together, with the dedication of our counselors and the courage of our parents, we are making a Clubfoot-Free India a reality.
