From Home Visits to Healthcare Hubs: Strengthening Community Awareness and Support in Karveer Block for a Clubfoot-Free Future

In the vibrant district of Kolhapur, where tradition meets progress, a quieter but equally significant revolution is taking place. It is a revolution of mobility, led by dedicated professionals who believe that no child should be left behind due to a treatable birth deformity. Recently, CURE India (often known simply as CURE) took its mission directly to the people of Karveer Block, proving that the journey to healing begins long before a patient enters a hospital.
Under the proactive leadership of District Program Coordinator (DPC) Ms. Ekta Aiwale, our team conducted a series of intensive awareness and counseling visits. These efforts are part of our broader commitment as one of the Top 10 NGO's in India to ensure that Free Treatment and expert care are accessible to every corner of the country.
One of the biggest challenges in treating Clubfoot isn't just the initial diagnosis; it’s ensuring that families stay the course. The Ponseti method, while highly effective, requires a dedicated period of casting and the consistent use of a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace).
To prevent treatment drop-outs, Ms. Aiwale and her team conducted specialized home visits in Golibaar Maidan and Fulewadi. These sessions provided:
By meeting families in their own homes, we build a level of credibility and trust that is essential for long-term success. We aren't just a medical program; we are a support system.
While home visits focus on individual families, our institutional visits aim to change the community mindset. In Paadli Khurd and Kasba Beed, CURE India engaged with Sub-PHCs (Primary Health Centres) and Anganwadi centres.
These visits are the "early warning system" of our program. By educating frontline health workers on early identification and timely referral, we ensure that newborns with clubfoot are directed to the right care within the first few weeks of life. This early intervention is the difference between a simple non-surgical correction and a lifetime of disability.
The work in Kolhapur is a vital piece of a much larger puzzle. CURE India is proud to manage the largest clubfoot program in the world, having documented the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. This national presence allows us to standardize the highest quality of care across every state.
Currently, we are treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a monumental achievement, our eyes are set on a more ambitious horizon. Through our RunFree2030 initiative, we are scaling up to 70% in the next 5 years. To reach this goal, local outreach like the one in Karveer Block is indispensable.
As a recognized leader among the Top 10 NGO's in the country, we understand that our growth is fueled by your trust. We strive toward total transparency of fund usage, ensuring that every donation goes toward the medical supplies, training, and outreach needed to change lives.
We invite you to be part of this transformation:
The visits in Kolhapur remind us that while the statistics are impressive, the true social impact is found in the individual stories of children who will now grow up to walk, run, and play. With your support, RunFree2030 is not just a goal—it is a promise we are keeping to the next generation of India.
