Schools as Gateways to Healing: How Awareness in Jajpur is Linking Families to Life-Changing Treatment and Dignified Inclusion

Education is often called the great equalizer, but for a child living with an untreated disability, the classroom can feel like a world away. At CURE India, we believe that the journey to an inclusive society begins where children spend most of their time: in our schools. Recently, our mission took us to Dolipur Primary School in Byasanagar, Jajpur, where we took another vital step toward ensuring that no child is left behind due to a treatable birth deformity.
As one of the Top 10 NGO's in India, CURE India (or simply CURE) is not just a medical provider; we are a social movement. Our work in Odisha is part of our extensive national presence, aimed at identifying children with Clubfoot and other disabilities early enough to change the trajectory of their lives.
The awareness session in Jajpur was led by our dedicated District Program Coordinator (DPC) from Bhubaneswar, Ms. Tunima Jena, in coordination with the Headmistress of Dolipur Primary School. Schools are the perfect environment for early identification. Teachers and school authorities are often the first to notice if a child is struggling with mobility or social withdrawal due to a physical challenge.
The interaction focused on:
By bringing these children into the mainstream education system, we don’t just treat their feet; we restore their dignity and their future.
For families in Jajpur and across Odisha, the discovery that their child’s disability is treatable can be overwhelming. CURE India provides a clear, evidence-based path forward using the Ponseti method. This non-surgical approach involves gentle manipulations and serial casting, followed by the use of a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace) to maintain the correction.
What makes our impact so significant is our commitment to Free Treatment. We believe that financial constraints should never prevent a child from walking. As the largest clubfoot program in the world, we have the most number of clubfoot children treated on record, and our results speak for themselves.
Our work in Jajpur is part of a massive national vision. Currently, CURE India is treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a milestone to be proud of, we are not stopping there.
Through our RunFree2030 initiative, we are scaling up to 70% coverage in the next 5 years. To achieve this, we need to replicate our Jajpur school interactions in every district across the country. Expanding our reach means expanding our hope.
| Mission Component | Our Current Status | The 2030 Goal |
| Annual Coverage | 33% of Children in India | 70% of Children in India |
| Treatment Cost | 100% Free for Families | Always Free |
| National Presence | All States & UTs | Deep Rural Integration |
Donors and the general public often ask what makes CURE India one of the Top 10 NGO's in the country. The answer lies in our credibility and our transparency of fund usage. We understand that every donation is an act of trust. Whether it is funding the travel for a DPC to reach a remote school in Odisha or providing a high-quality FAB brace, we ensure that every rupee is used to create a measurable social impact.
We invite you to be a part of this journey:
The interaction at Dolipur Primary School reminds us that awareness is the first step toward healing. When school authorities, caregivers, and medical experts work together, we create a safety net for our children.
Together, through RunFree2030, we are building a future where every child—regardless of their birth condition—has the opportunity to walk into a classroom with confidence and run on a playground with joy.
