Advancing Clubfoot Treatment: CURE India's Continuing Medical Education at GMC Baramulla

🩺 Medical Experts and Techniques:

Noted Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mathew Varghese and paediatric Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Alaric Aroojis played pivotal roles in the event. They delivered lectures on the Ponseti method of clubfoot management, addressing the spectrum of clubfoot deformity and sharing insights into the latest global techniques for treating clubfoot.

👩‍⚕️ Practical Sessions and Awareness:

The CME included practical sessions where Dr. Mathew and Dr. Aroojis performed tenotomy and casts on patients, raising awareness among attending doctors about effective clubfoot treatment. The hands-on experience aimed to enhance the participants' understanding and skills in the management of clubfoot.

🌍 CURE India's Initiative in J&K:

CURE India, with a goal to eradicate disability caused by clubfoot, currently operates six clinics in Jammu and Kashmir. The program emphasizes early identification and treatment, educating the public that clubfoot can be treated, and neglected cases can lead to a lifetime of disability.

👥 Collaboration and Expansion:

The collaboration between CURE India and GMC Baramulla has been instrumental in conducting refresher training sessions, contributing to the knowledge and skills of medical professionals. The participants expressed the need for a dedicated clinic in Baramulla to further benefit patients from the district and neighbouring areas.

📈 Future Initiatives:

CURE India's country director, Dr. Santosh George, highlighted the vision for Kashmir – to ensure immediate identification and treatment for all children born with clubfoot. Additionally, a new program, in partnership with "Children in India," will provide medical and rehabilitation support for children with other disability conditions.

The Principal of GMC Baramulla, Dr. Ruby Reshi, commended CURE India's efforts in organizing the training program. The continuous scientific interactions aim to enhance academic and research landscapes, setting a strong foundation for future scientific endeavors.
