Breaking Barriers in Gujarat: How CURE India is Training Frontline Caregivers to Identify and Heal Clubfoot Early

In the vibrant city of Jamnagar, Gujarat, a quiet revolution is taking place—one step at a time. While many see clubfoot as a permanent disability, CURE India sees it as a solvable challenge. Recently, our team took to the streets of Jamnagar, visiting Randal Nagar School and several local Anganwadi centres to spark a conversation that saves lives and restores mobility.
As one of the Top 10 NGO's in India, CURE India (or simply CURE) is dedicated to a singular, life-changing mission: ensuring that no child is left behind due to a treatable birth deformity. Our national presence allows us to reach into the heart of communities, transforming local caregivers into the first line of defense against lifelong disability.
Why Jamnagar? And why Anganwadi centres? The answer lies in the power of early identification. For many families, the birth of a child with clubfoot brings confusion and fear. By engaging directly with teachers and Anganwadi workers, CURE India is building a network of informed advocates who can spot the signs of clubfoot at the earliest possible stage.
During these interactions, our team emphasized:
At the heart of our clinical success is the Ponseti method, the globally recognized, non-surgical gold standard for clubfoot correction. This method involves a series of gentle manipulations and plaster casts that gradually move the foot into the correct position.
Following the casting phase, children are fitted with a FAB (Foot Abduction Brace) to maintain the correction as they grow. What sets CURE apart is our commitment to providing Free Treatment. We believe that a child's ability to run should never be determined by their family’s financial status.
CURE India is proud to manage the largest clubfoot program in the world, with the most number of clubfoot children treated globally. However, our work is far from finished.
Currently, we are treating 33% of children born with clubfoot in India. While this is a monumental achievement, our RunFree2030 initiative is our most ambitious yet. We are scaling up to 70% in the next 5 years. To reach this target, grassroots awareness drives—like the ones in Jamnagar—are essential. Every teacher trained and every caregiver informed brings us one step closer to a clubfoot-free India.
As a donor or a member of the general public, you want to know that your contribution creates a real social impact. Being recognized as one of the Top 10 NGO's in the country is a testament to our credibility and our results. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency of fund usage, ensuring that every donation is funneled directly into clinical care, medical supplies, and outreach programs.
When you support CURE, you are supporting:
The transformation from a clubfoot diagnosis to a child running on a playground is a miracle made possible by people like you. We invite you to be a part of this journey toward RunFree2030.
Together, we are making Jamnagar—and all of India—a place where every child can walk with dignity and hope.
